2006 Games of Note

 June 27, 2006

There were a few games played on today's docket that are worth noting. In Arizona, Eric Byrnes had his best day of the season smacking 2 homeruns and driving in 6 leading the Diamond Backs to to a 13-1 victory over the Seattle Mariners.
In a game between Atlanta and New York the Yankees scored 18 runs, tied for most by any team in a game this season. The Braves scored 9 runs despite losing. The 27 total runs scored were the 2nd most scored by 2 teams in a game this year.
In Boston, the NY Met's Carlos Delgado had a big night at the plate going 4 for 4 with 6 RBI. The Mets pounded the Red Sox 15-7 and with the win they remained the top team (47-29) in the NL so far this season. The 37 hits the teams combined for is tied with most in a game in MLB this year.

2006 Detroit Tigers News

 June 26, 2006

My Detroit Tigers are in the midst of inter-league play right now as the 2006 MLB schedule nears the end of June. The Tigers took 2 of 3 games from the Cincinnati Reds back in May. This month, Detroit first swept the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field before heading to Milwaukee and taking 2 of the 3 games at Miller Park against the Brewers. Back home now, the Tigers just finished a 3 game  sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals and await the arrival of the NL Central leading Houston Astros for a 3 games series. Then they head to Pittsburgh to complete their inter-league play for the season.
All in all, the Tigers have faired very well so far in inter-league play and are 10-2 overall. Detroit leads the AL Central by 3.5 games over the Chicago White Sox, last years MLB Champions.

2006 AL Standings and League Leaders

 June 15, 2006

We've reached the middle of June in the 2006 MLB season. My Detroit Tigers have the best record in the AL (42-25) and hold a slim 1 game lead over the hard charging Minnesota Twins. The Chicago White Sox are only 2.5 GB Detroit. In the AL East, the New York Yankees hold a 2 game lead over the Toronto Blue Jays. Over in the AL West, the Seattle Mariners lead by 4 games over the LA Angels.
Baltimore's Miguel Tejada leads the AL in hitting with a .380 BA. Chicago's Jim Thome leads in HR (27) and RBI (64).  Toronto's Roy Halladay 10-2, 2.74 ERA has been the top starter in the AL. Many relievers have taken center stage in the pitching this season with Toronto's B. J. Ryan (22 Saves, 1.19 ERA), NY's Mariano Rivera (20 Saves, 1.98 ERA), and Minnesota's Joe Nathan (20 Saves, 1.50 ERA) leading the wave of excellent closers in MLB.

2006 NL Standings and League Leaders

 June 15, 2006

It's the middle of June in the 2006 MLB season. The New York Mets have the best record (40-25) in the NL and lead the NL East. But the Atlanta Braves have been red hot lately, winning their last 9 in a row, and are only 2 GB the division leaders. The Houston Astros (38-29) lead the NL Central and the San Diego Padres (40-26) are in 1st place in the NL West. With only 65+ games played for most teams so far, nobody is running away with a division pennant yet.
Philadelphia's Ryan Howard continues to be very productive and leads the NL in HR (27) and RBI (76). The Rockies Todd Helton's .384 BA leads the league in hitting. Houston's Roy Oswalt is putting up very impressive pitching numbers, (11-0, 1.56 ERA).

2006 AL Game: Clev. @ NY Mussina/Rivera No-Hitter

 June 15, 2006

Mike Mussina and Mariano Rivera combined for a no-hitter against the Cleveland Indians today in New York. Yankee starter Mussina had a 5-0 lead and had only thrown 79 pitches, so fans were surprised to see Rivera come out to pitch at the top of the 9th with a no-hitter on the line. Whatever the reasoning was, Rivera completed the no-hitter and NY came away with the 5-0 victory.

The New York (AL) Yankees pitching staff gave the fans an afternoon that
they'll never forget by tossing a combined no-hitter! The tension started to
build around the 6th inning. By the 9th inning the crowd was electrified.
New York (AL) finished with 11 hits in the victory.

The winning pitcher was Mike Mussina(6-4) who allowed no runs in 8 innings.
Cliff Lee(5-5) ended up with the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 10 hits and
5 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.

'You probably have a better chance of winning the lottery than this
happening,' said Mussina who got credit for the win, 'I don't expect it to
sink in for awhile.' he said. 'You know, it's hard to say who was better, the
starter or the bullpen!'

2006 NL Game: Col. @ Was. Holliday Hits for the Cycle

Holliday was a one-man wrecking crew. He belted a three-run homer in the 1st
inning, doubled in the 6th inning, stroked a one-base hit which scored a run
in the 7th inning and tripled knocking in a run in the 9th inning. Jason
Jennings(5-3) got relief help from Ramon Ramirez who was excellent in relief

just jumped on his back and let him take us,' Jennings said. 'I'm glad I

2006 AL Game: Tor. @ Bal. Halladay Wins 10th Game

 June 8, 2006

Toronto's Roy Halladay became the 1st 10 game winner in the AL tonight when the Blue Jays defeated the Baltimore Orioles 6-5. Halladay didn't have a very impressive performance, but it was enough to get the Win. He left in the 6th inning with a 6-5 lead and the bullpen shut down the Orioles the rest of the way. Halladay is now 10-2 on the season with a 2.79 ERA, helping to keep the Jays in a battle for 1st place in the AL East with the NY Yankees.
