2006 MLB Playoffs, ALCS Game #6: Min. @ LA

 October 19, 2006

The Minnesota Twins are headed to the World Series! It was a wild Game 6 in the ALCS at Angels Stadium in LA. When the smoke cleared, the Twins had defeated the Los Angeles Angels 10-9. Jason Kubel had a big night for Minnesota driving in 5 runs.
LA took the lead in the bottom of the 1st on a Vlad Guerrero 2-run homer. Minnesota came right back in the top of the 2nd scoring 4 times on 2-run homers from Torri Hunter and Kubel. LA evened things up at 4 in the bottom of the 2nd and then took the lead with 2 more runs in the 3rd. After scoring single runs in the 4th and 5th the Angels had what looked like a comfortable 8-4 lead. But Minnesota had other ideas. The Twins scored twice in the 6th before erupting for 4 runs in the 8th. LA had brought in Francisco Rogriguez in the 8th to hold the 8-6 lead but he wasn't very effective and ended up with the Loss. Juan Rivera homered in the bottom of the 8th to close the gap to 1, 10-9. Joe Nathan came on in relief after Rivera's homer and closed the door on LA getting the Save. Pat Neshek, the 5th of 6 pitchers used by the Twins, got the Win.
Many had questioned Minnesota's chances in the postseason mostly due to their lack of quality starting pitching. But they got good enough pitching to back their potent hitting throughout the playoffs. The Wild Card Minnesota Twins win the AL Pennant and will represent the league in the 2006 World Series.

Designated hitter Jason Kubel went deep and had 5 RBI at Angels Stadium where
the Minnesota Twins beat the Los Angeles(AL) Angels by the score of 10 to
9.

Kubel provided much of the offense. He lifted one out of the park for a two
run home run in the 2nd inning and smacked a single bringing home two
baserunners in the 6th inning. Los Angeles(AL) scored in 6 different
innings, but their shaky pitching kept them from victory.

Pat Neshek(1-0) went 2 and 1/3 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Joe
Nathan recorded the save, his 4th. Francisco Rodriguez(0-1) suffered the
loss in relief.

2006 MLB Playoffs, ALCS Game #5: LA @ Min.

October 17, 2006

The Minnesota Twins sent their ace Johan Santana to the hill in Game 5 of the ALCS hoping to close the Series out. But the Los Angeles Angels had other ideas and after a back and forth battle the Angels won the game 3-2. LA scored first in the top of the 1st on a Vlad Guerrero double. In the bottom of the 4th, Joe Maur hit a solo shot off Angel starter Kelvim Escobar. Both teams scored a run in the 5th inning and the game was tied 2-2. Then in the 8th, Juan Rivera just cleared the left-centerfield wall and LA led 3-2. Francisco Rodriguez came on to start the bottom of the 8th for LA and struck out the side. In the bottom of the 9th inning he walked a batter with 2 outs before striking out Torri Hunter to close out the game. The ALCS now heads back to LA with the Twins up 3 games to 2.

2006 MLB Playoffs, ALCS Game #4: LA @ Min.

 October 16, 2006

It was a pitching duel in Game 4 of the ALCS. The Minnesota Twins ended up taking a close 2-0 decision from the Los Angles Angels. Joe Mauer's 2-run double in the bottom of the 4th would be all the runs scored in the game. Boof Bonser and 3 other pitchers combined to shut out the Angels. Joe Nathan pitched the final 1 1/3 innings for the Save. Jered Weaver was a tough luck loser as he pitched a fine game for LA. The Angels were 0 for 7 with RISP while the Twins were 1 for 7, the difference in the game. Minnesota now holds a commanding 3-1 lead in the Series.
