2006 AL Standings and League Leaders

 May 15, 2006

The 2006 AL season has reached the middle of May. My Detroit Tigers (25-12) have been the top team in the league so far. The Chicago White Sox (23-14) and Minnesota Twins (22-16) are keeping the Tigers in their sights though. In the AL East, the Toronto Blue Jays (23-14) have recently overtaken the New York Yankees (24-14) for 1st place in the division. Seattle (21-18) leads the AL West with the LA Angels right on their heels.
Baltimore's Miguel Tejada leads the AL in batting with a .390BA.  Chicago's Jim Thome leads the league in HR (18) and RBI (47). New York's Randy Johnson has more Wins (7-0) than any other pitcher in the AL. Chicago's Javier Vazquez has the top ERA (1.65).
My Tigers Craig Monroe is sitting 5th in HR with 12 and 2nd in RBI with 35. Pitcher Jeremy Bonderman is 2nd in K's with 65.

2006 NL Standings and League Leaders

 May 15, 2006

It's the middle of May in the 2006 NL season. While it's still very early in the season, some good pennant races can already be seen shaping up. The top team in the NL has been the San Diego Padres with a 26-13 record. The Padres are being challenged by Arizona (23-15) and LA (22-17) in the NL West. The New York Mets (24-13) lead the NL East while in the NL Central, Chicago (22-15) and Houston (23-16) have been flip-flopping the top spot. The St. Louis Cardinals (22-16) are ready to join the flip-flopping being only .5 GB.
New York's Paul La Duca leads the league in hitting with a .400BA. St. Louis Cardinal Albert Pujols leads in Home Runs (17) and Houston's Morgan Ensberg leads in RBI (44). Many pitchers are off to fine starts, but none better than Houston's Roy Oswalt. Oswalt's 8-0 record and 1.22 ERA are tops in MLB.

Third baseman Pedro Feliz blasted 3 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the San
Francisco Giants staged a dramatic comeback over the Houston Astros by a
score of 6 to 3 at Minute Maid Field.

San Francisco had the winning rally in the 9th inning when they tallied 4 runs
on 4 hits. The highlight belonged to Feliz who silenced the crowd when he
belted a three-run homer. Both teams finished the game with 8 hits.

Kevin Correia(1-2) went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory.
Jeremy Accardo recorded his 1st save. Brad Lidge(1-2) was hit with the loss
in relief.

Phil arner was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough loss.
He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a terse,
yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to lose.
Our guys gave it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin' on us
tonight'

Vernon Wells recorded 4 RBI with one swing when he ripped a grand slam as the
Toronto Blue Jays bested the Tampa Bay Devil Rays 18 to 11 at Tropicana
Field.

Wells led the offense for Toronto. He slapped a base-hit knocking in a run in
the 2nd inning and quieted the crowd by clouting a Grand Slam in the 6th
inning. Toronto bats were hot in the 2nd inning with 4 runs on 4 hits, the
6th inning which saw them score 7 runs on 4 hits and the 7th inning which saw
them plate 4 runs on 5 hits. Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 6
different innings was still not enough for Tampa Bay to come away with the
victory.

Josh Towers(2-3) went 7 innings allowing 7 runs for the victory. Ruddy
Lugo(2-1) suffered the loss in relief. He gave up 1 run and 3 hits in 2 and
2/3 innings.

First baseman Carlos Delgado had 4 hits as the New York (NL) Mets really laid
it on the Milwaukee Brewers 17 to 7.

Delgado was unconscious all evening. The Milwaukee fans hated to see him
approaching the batter's box as he just kept delivering base hits! He
delivered a base-hit bringing in two baserunners in the 3rd inning, lined a
one-base hit in the 4th inning, depressed the partisan hometown fans with a
grand slam home run in the 5th inning and slapped a single bringing in two
baserunners in the 7th inning. New York (NL) lit up the scoreboard in the
5th inning when they had 5 runs on 4 hits and the 7th inning with 5 runs on 3
hits. For the game New York (NL) out-hit Milwaukee 17 to 8.

Geremi Gonzalez(1-0) went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 7 runs for the victory.
Dana Eveland(0-1) absorbed the loss. He was touched for 8 hits and 4 walks
in 3 and 2/3 innings.

'I just got in the box, looked for a pitch and swung,' Delgado said. 'That's
it'

2006 AL Game: Det. @ Min.

 May 5, 2006

My Detroit Tigers locked up in a battle with the Minnesota Twins tonight in the longest game of this 2006 season. It took 19 innings but Minnesota proved victorious 4-3, and sent the hometown crowd away a happy lot. The score was tied at 3 after 6 innings and nothing but goose-eggs were put on the scoreboard for the next 12 innings. Finally, in the bottom of the 19th with 2 outs, Juan Castro tripled. Shannon Stewart then came to the plate and singled home the winning run. For Stewart it was his 4th RBI of the game, accounting for all the Twin's runs.
