The Detroit Tigers came back to win Game 2 of their ALDS contest against the Los Angeles Angels tonight by the score of 4-3. LA went ahead 1-0 in the top of the 2nd on a Juan Rivera homerun. The Tigers scored 2 in the bottom of the inning on Matt Stairs homer. The Angels retook the lead in the 4th 3-2 on back-to-back homeruns by Garret Anderson and Juan Rivera, his 2nd of the game. Detroit tied it up in the bottom of the 4th on Craig Monroe's homer, then took the lead 4-3 in the bottom of the 5th on Monroe's RBI SFF with the bases loaded. Only a HR saving catch by Chone Figgins prevented the SFF from being a grand slam. The score remained 4-3 into the top of the 9th when Todd "heart-attack" Jones came in to try to close it out for the Tigers. He promptly gave up a leadoff single and with 1 out, a double by Mike Napoli that almost cleared the left field fence. Pinch runner Tom Murphy was held at 3rd on the double. Jones was able to bear down at that point and got the final 2 outs of the ballgame. The Series will now shift back to LA for the next 2 games tied at 1-1.

The final score was the Detroit Tigers 4, the Los Angeles(AL) Angels 3. Los Angeles(AL) was unable to claim the lead after Detroit went ahead in the bottom of the 5th inning plating one baserunner on 2 hits. Los Angeles(AL) threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. Justin Verlander(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing 3 runs. Todd Jones recorded his 1st save. Kelvim Escobar(0-1) took the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 9 hits and 3 walks in 4 innings. Mike Scioscia was in a contemplative mood after the tough loss, 'It is really hard to lose this kind of a game. It may seem weird to some, but it is easier to take the occasional blow-out loss. It is the ones that just barely get away that hurt so much - like this one!'
