J.D. Drew helped keep the Los Angeles Dodgers alive in the 2006 NLCS by having a big night at the plate against the Houston Astros. Facing elimination in Game 6, Drew hit for the cycle in the Dodgers 14 inning 11-9 victory. He was 5 for 7 in the game with 2 homeruns, 3 RBI and scored 4 runs.
Houston grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st. LA came right back with 2 runs in the 2nd and 3 in the 3rd. Both teams scored runs in bunches during the game and heading into the 8th inning Houston led 8-7. In the top of the 8th Andre Either hit his first homerun of the postseason, tying the game at 8. After all that scoring, neither team could push a run across the plate for the next 5 innings. Kenny Lofton, who has been struggling at the plate, led off the 14th with a triple. Rafael Furcal doubled him home and two batters later Drew hit his 2nd homer of the game, a 2-run shot, for an 11-8 Dodger lead. Houston wouldn't go down quietly in the bottom of the 14th, scoring a run and bringing the tying run to the plate with 1 away. But LA reliever Giovanni Carrara got the last 2 outs for the Win.
Both teams emptied their benches and most of their bullpens in the game. The deciding Game 7 will be played tomorrow with Roy Oswalt going for Houston and Brad Penny for LA.
