2006 AL Divisional Series Game: Min. @ NY

 October 3, 2006

   The New York Yankees won Game 1 of their AL Divisional Series matchup with the Minnesota Twins today 5-0. The score was 1-0 in favor of NY until the bottom of the 7th when the Yankees put up 2 runs on the scoreboard and chased Twins starter Johann Santana. NY added 2 more runs in the bottom of the 8th when Jason Giambi clubbed a 2-run homer. Mike Mussina, with help from the bullpen, got the Win.

Jason Giambi homered and had 2 RBI as the New York (AL) Yankees topped the
Minnesota Twins by a score of 5 to 0 at Yankee Stadium.
 
Minnesota was unable to climb back into it after New York (AL) went ahead for
good in the bottom of the 5th inning plating one baserunner on 2 hits.
Bernie Williams doubled.  Melky Cabrera was the next batter, but he struck
out.  Robinson Cano then doubled scoring the run.  Overall New York (AL)
out-hit Minnesota 9 to 4.  
 
The victory was credited to Mike Mussina(1-0) who went 5 and 2/3 innings,
allowing no runs. Johan Santana(0-1) was the loser.  He surrendered 3 runs
and 6 hits in 6 and 1/3 innings.
