2006 AL Game: Chi. @ Det.

 August 21, 2006

The 1st place Chicago White Sox came into Detroit today for a big 4 game series against my 2nd place Detroit Tigers. Jose Contreras pitched a complete game 5-hitter and the Sox came away with an easy 5-1 victory in tonight's game. Alex Cintron drove in 2 runs with a single in the 2nd inning and Detroit was never able to come back from that deficit. Chicago now leads the AL Central by 1.5 games over Detroit and the Minnesota Twins are just 2.5 games back. The Tigers are now 5-15 in August as their downward spiral continues.

Jose Contreras went 9 solid innings and shortstop Alex Cintron had 2 base hits
and 2 RBI as the Chicago (AL) White Sox defeated the Detroit Tigers 5 to 1 at
Comerica Park.

Detroit never recovered after Chicago (AL) took the lead in the top of the 2nd
inning scoring 2 runs using 2 hits. Paul Konerko led off the inning for
Chicago (AL) when he laced a base-hit. Jermaine Dye came to the plate and
drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Joe Crede then drew a walk to load
the bases. Rob Mackowiak was a strikeout victim, unable to help out.
Cintron stepped into the box and banged out a single scoring two baserunners.
That was all the runs Contreras(11-7) needed. Chicago (AL) totaled 7 hits
on the night.

Justin Verlander(13-8) suffered the loss. He allowed 5 runs and 7 hits in 6
and 1/3 innings.
