Designated hitter Jim Thome cracked 3 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Chicago
(AL) White Sox beat the Detroit Tigers by a score of 7 to 3.

Thome enjoyed a great day at the plate. Every time he came up in the latter
innings, the crowd was on their feet cheering. He delivered a solo blast in
the 1st inning, cracked a two-run shot in the 5th inning and popped a two-run
clout over the fence in the 7th inning. Chicago (AL) rapped out 10 hits for
the afternoon.

Freddy Garcia(11-4) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 8 innings.
Garcia was helped out by Matt Thornton who recorded his 5th save. The loss
was charged to Zach Miner(3-7). He surrended 3 homeruns in his 6 and 1/3
innings.

'It's just about getting in a good hitting position and just going out there
and being prepared,' Thome said. 'You try to hit in your own capacity and not
do too much. I just try to have a good approach, day after day, game by game,
and pitch by pitch.'
