The deciding Game 5 of the NLDS between the Houston Astros and the San Diego Padres was a dandy! Both team's pitchers were dealing as the Astros eked out a 2-1 victory, sending them to the next round of the playoffs. Roy Oswalt of the Houston club got the win over the Padre's Jake Peavy.
Houston struck first in the top of the 2nd on doubles by Luke Scott and Adam Everett. San Diego's Adrian Gonzales hit homer in the bottom of the 4th tying the game 1-1. The Astros scratched out a run in the 7th on Mike Lamb's double, a single from Brad Ausmus, a walk to Adam Everett and a SFF from pinch-hitter Orlando Palmeiro. Houston led 2-1. In the bottom of the 9th with Brad Lidge pitching for Houston, Dave Roberts led off with a double and then stole 3rd base. With the tying run at 3rd, Lidge got Mike Cameron and Lance Berkman to line out before Brian Giles grounded out giving Houston the win. The Astros will now have home field advantage against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS.
