2006 AL Game: Chi. @ Det.

 August 24, 2006

Detroit's August woes continued today at Comerica Park. The Chicago White Sox had a big 9th inning comeback and defeated the Tigers 8-5. Detroit led 5-4 going into the 9th but Tiger closer Todd Jones was hammered for 4 runs while the hometown crowd booed him mercilessly. The big blow came from Jermaine Dye who hit his 43rd homerun of the season, a 2 run blast. So Chicago takes 3 games of the 4 game series against Detroit and leaves town with a 2.5 game lead in the AL Central. The Tigers have now gone 5-17 in August.

Chicago (AL) won the game with a rally in the 9th inning when they tallied 4
runs on 6 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Jermaine Dye who
deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he popped a two-run clout
over the fence. Chicago (AL) ended up with 15 hits for the game while
Detroit had 11.

David Riske(2-2) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. Bobby
Jenks earned the save, his 36th. Todd Jones(4-4) took the loss in relief.
He saw his ERA jump from 3.35 to 4.23 as gave up 4 runs in 2/3 of an inning.

'I pin this one on my own shoulders,' Jones said. 'The bottom line is I didn't
get the job done. Our fans deserve better than this.'
