Right fielder Jermaine Dye smacked a grand slam at Comerica Park where the
Chicago (AL) White Sox beat the Detroit Tigers by the score of 12 to 6.

Dye was really in 'the zone'. He blasted a Grand Slam homerun in the 5th
inning, doubled scoring two baserunners in the 7th inning and lined a
one-base hit in the 9th inning. Chicago (AL) had a total of 13 hits for the
game.

Jose Contreras(9-4) went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 4 runs for the victory.
The losing pitcher was Kenny Rogers(12-5). He gave up 9 runs in 4 and 2/3
innings of work.

'It's just about getting in a good hitting position and just going out there
and being prepared,' Dye said. 'You try to hit in your own capacity and not
do too much. I just try to have a good approach, day after day, game by game,
and pitch by pitch.'

 July 19, 2006

In another exciting extra inning game the Detroit Tigers defeated the Chicago White Sox 9-8 in 15 innings. Game 1 of the 3 game series between these teams went 13 innings before the Tigers pulled out a win. Bonderman was chased in the 4th inning with Chicago leading 7-1. 3 of the runs allowed were unearned.
Detroit trailed 7-4 in the bottom of the 9th when Marcus Thames thrilled the crowd by launching a 2 out 3 run homer, sending the game into extra innings. Chicago scored a run in the 10th but Curtis Granderson hit his 2nd homer of the game in the bottom of the frame, tying things up at 8. Finally, in the bottom of the 15th after 2 were out Carlos Guillan singled. Craig Monroe came to the plate and doubled into centerfield scoring Guillen all the way from 1st base. Joel Zumaya pitched 3 innings of shutout ball for the Win and for the 2nd night in a row the packed stadium roared in jubilation for a Tiger victory.
