Thames made sure the Detroit fans enjoyed themselves. He cracked a two-run shot in the 2nd inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 8th inning. New York (AL) had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. The win was credited to Roman Colon(1-0) who went 5 innings allowing 3 runs. Todd Jones was credited with his 3rd save. Aaron Small(0-2) suffered the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 5 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings. With this win, Detroit has a 31-21 record. They have been 4-6 lately.
