Chase Utley blasted 3 homeruns and had 9 RBI as the Arizona Diamond Backs were
badly beaten by the Philadelphia Phillies, 18 to 5.

Utley was really in 'the zone'. He bombed a two-run dinger in the 1st inning,
lined a single plating two runs in the 4th inning, cleared the fences for a
two-run home run in the 6th inning and lofted a three-run 'big-fly' in the
9th inning. Philadelphia bats were very productive in the 1st inning which
saw them plate 3 runs on 3 hits, the 6th inning with 3 runs on 4 hits, the
7th inning which saw them score 3 runs on 3 hits and the 9th inning when they
had 3 runs on 3 hits. The Philadelphia offense smacked the Arizona pitching
staff around, scoring in 8 of the 9 innings.

The winning pitcher was Ryan Madson(1-4) who allowed 4 runs in 5 innings.
Dustin Nippert(0-1) was tagged with the loss. He surrended 4 homeruns in his
5 and 2/3 innings.

With this win, Philadelphia has a 26-33 record. They have been 5-5 lately.
With this loss, Arizona has a 3-7 record of late, 33-26 overall.

2006 AL Game: Det. @ Chi.

 June 6, 2006

The Detroit Tigers came into Chicago for a 3 game series starting tonight. Detroit trails the AL Central leading White Sox by 2.5 games, so this is a big series early on in the 2006 season. Marcus Thames has been red hot lately and he kept it going in this contest. Detroit scored first on a Brandon Inge homerun in the 3rd inning. Thames added a 2-run homer in the 5th for a 3-0 Tiger lead. Nate Robertson was on the hill for Detroit and he was really dealing tonight. The Tigers entered the 9th with the 3-0 lead when Thames hit another 2-run shot. Robertson was able to get the complete game shutout, his 5th Win, and Detroit moved within 1.5 games of the White Sox. Nate allowed 4 hits, walked 2 and struck out 9 in his 9 innings of work. Marcus Thames in the last 10 days (9 games) has hit .389 BA with 9 HR and 19 RBI!

2006 AL Standings and League Leaders

 June 1, 2006

The first two months of the 2006 AL season are in the books. My Detroit Tigers stumbled a bit in May going 14-14. This has allowed the Chicago White Sox to take the lead in the AL Central. The White Sox have posted best pitching numbers in the AL. The Minnesota Twins were a league best 18-10 in May and moved into 3rd place in the Central just 3 games behind. The Toronto Blue Jays lead the AL East by a .5 game over the New York Yankees. Toronto has the best offensive numbers in the league. Over in the AL West the Seattle Mariners hold a slim 1 game lead over the Los Angeles Angels.
The Cleveland Indian's Jim Thome leads the AL in HR (22) and RBI (55). Baltimore's Miquel Tejada leads the league with a .387 BA. Toronto's Roy Halliday (8-2, 2.23 ERA) can lay claim to the top pitcher in the AL. But Boston's Tim Wakefield (7-1, 2.30) and Chicago's Javier Vasquez (7-2, 2.28) are right there with him.
Standouts for my Detroit Tigers include Carlos Guillen (.364 BA, 5th in the AL) and Jeremy Bonderman (6-2) with a league best 82 K's.

2006 NL Standings and League Leaders

 June 1, 2006

We've reached the month of June in the 2006 NL season. The New York Mets, who have the best record in the NL, were 19-9 in May. That play has allowed them to pull away a little bit from the 2nd place Atlanta Braves in the NL East. In the NL Central, the Houston Astros have a 2.5 game lead over the 2nd place St. Louis Cardinals. The Chicago Cubs sit 3 games behind. Things are tighter in the NL West where the Los Angeles Dodgers hold a .5 game lead over the Arizona Diamond Backs and just 1 game over the San Diego Padres. The Dodgers were a NL best 20-9 in May allowing them to move into the top spot.
The Philadelphia Phillies have struggled this season but not 1st baseman Ryan Howard. Howard leads the NL in HR with 21 and RBI with 61. Colorado's Todd Helton leads the league with a .408 BA. Houston's Roy Oswalt is the top pitcher in MLB so far this year. Oswalt is 11-0 with a 1.45 ERA, both numbers the best in MLB.

May 30, 2006: Detroit Tigers Game

 May 30, 2006

My Detroit Tigers were on a 4 game losing streak heading into today's game against the visiting New York Yankees. The losing streak is the longest of the season so far for Detroit and dropped them from 1st place to 3rd in the AL Central. After being swept in a 3 game series against Cleveland, the Tigers dropped the first game of a 4 game series against New York. Today's contest against the Yankees was a close one, but the Tigers were able to eek out a 6-5 victory ending the losing streak. Marcus Thames' (pictured below) 2 homeruns and 3 RBI were the difference in the game.

NEW YORK (AL) AT DETROIT Yankees......... 1 0 1 1 0 0 0 1 1 - 5 13 1 Tigers.......... 0 3 0 0 2 0 0 1 - 6 8 3 Win:Colon(1-0) Loss:Small(0-2) Save:Jones(3rd) Homeruns- J.Giambi(12th), M.Thames-2(9th) Marcus Thames slammed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Comerica Park where the Detroit Tigers beat the New York (AL) Yankees by the score of 6 to 5. Thames made sure the Detroit fans enjoyed themselves. He cracked a two-run shot in the 2nd inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 8th inning. New York (AL) had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. The win was credited to Roman Colon(1-0) who went 5 innings allowing 3 runs. Todd Jones was credited with his 3rd save. Aaron Small(0-2) suffered the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 5 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings. With this win, Detroit has a 31-21 record. They have been 4-6 lately. With this loss, New York (AL) has a 6-4 record of late, 30-20 overall. Center fielder Grady Sizemore smacked 3 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Paul Byrd
had a strong outing as the Cleveland Indians defeated the Detroit Tigers by a
score of 10 to 2 at Comerica Park.

Sizemore was a source of great heartache for the Detroit faithful all evening.
He just kept pounding out hits! He ripped a single in the 1st inning, lifted
one out of the park for a two run home run in the 5th inning, blasted a solo
shot in the 7th inning and cracked a two-run shot in the 8th inning.
Cleveland finished with 12 hits while Detroit ended up with 5.

The win was credited to Byrd(3-6) who went 8 innings allowing 2 runs. Justin
Verlander(5-4) suffered the loss. 'I just got in the box, looked for a pitch
and swung,' Sizemore said. 'That's it'
