Justin Verlander dominated, striking out 12 Texas batters at Ameriquest Field
where the Detroit Tigers beat the Texas Rangers 8 to 2.

The Texas fans didn't appreciate the big day Chris Shelton had. He lofted a
three-run bomb in the 1st inning and ripped a base-knock bringing home two
baserunners in the 8th inning. Detroit had 13 hits for the night.

The victory went to Verlander(1-0) who went the distance allowing 2 runs.
Kevin Millwood(0-1) took the loss. Verlander was asked about his big
strikeout performance, 'Well, it's a little odd when you rack up these
numbers on the road - instead of cheers and a running tally in the stands,
everything gets real still and quiet. Just strange - but it's nice to be
able to take the crowd out of the game.'
