2006 AL Game: Min, @ Det.

 August 7, 2006

My Detroit Tigers are back to their losing ways. After ending their 6 game losing streak, Detroit lost the series finale against Cleveland and tonight they got pounded by the Minnesota Twins 12-2. The packed house at Comerica Park watched in dismay as Francisco Liriano reeled off 13 strikeouts and Jason Kubel drove in 5 runs to lead Minnesota to victory. Things are really tightening up in the AL Central division.

Francisco Liriano reeled off a total of 13 strikeouts and Jason Kubel jacked
one out of the ballyard and had 5 RBI at Comerica Park as the Minnesota Twins
belted the Detroit Tigers by the count of 12 to 2.

The Detroit fans didn't appreciate the big day Kubel had. He doubled in the
2nd inning, lost the ball over the fence for three runs in the 6th inning and
singled bringing home two baserunners in the 7th inning. Minnesota out-hit
Detroit for the game, 15 hits to 8.

Liriano(11-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing 2
runs. Zach Miner(3-6) absorbed the loss. 'I had my good stuff tonight.'
Liriano said. 'As the game went along I started to get the feeling that I was
going to strike out a bunch of hitters.'

2006 NL Game: Phi. @ NY Beltran Hits for the Cycle.

 August 6, 2006

Carlos Beltran hit for the cycle tonight while the New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 13-6. Beltran has been one of the main cogs in the 1st place Met's drive for the NL pennant this season. He's currently 2nd in the league in HR, 4th in RBI and hitting .290, all while playing a nearly flawless centerfield. The win increases the Mets lead over 2nd place Philadelphia to 10 games in the NL East.

2006 AL Game: Cle. @ Det.

 August 5, 2006

The Detroit Tigers finally put a halt to their 6 game losing streak tonight by defeating the Cleveland Indians 4-3. The Tigers had put 4 runs on the scoreboard by the 4th inning and then held on for the victory. Homeruns by Craig Monroe and Marcus Thames along with a 4 for 4 game by Dimitri Young paced the offense for Detroit. Kenny Rogers wasn't at his best but went 5 1/3 innings for the Win, his 14th of the season. The Tiger bullpen did a fine job holding the Indians scoreless the rest of the way and Todd Jones picked up his 8th Save of the season.

Cleveland Indians 4 to 3 at Comerica Park.

Detroit scored 3 runs in the decisive 2nd inning when they came up with 4 base
hits. The key at-bat was by Craig Monroe who excited the crowd when he
lifted one out of the park for a two run home run. Detroit rapped out 9 hits
for the night.

Kenny Rogers(14-5) got the win allowing 3 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings. Todd
Jones preserved the game for Rogers, recording his his 8th save. Paul
Byrd(4-12) took the loss. He gave up 4 hits and no walks in 1 and 2/3
innings.

'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Rogers said.

2006 AL Game: Bsn. @ TB

 August 5, 2006

The lowly Tampa Bay Devil Rays pounded the Boston Red Sox 18-5 today. The 18 runs tied Tampa with 3 other teams for Most Runs Scored by a Team this season in the AL. The Rays have the worst record in the AL, but on this day the home town fans had a lot to cheer about.

Jorge Cantu had 4 hits and 4 RBI at Tropicana Field as the Tampa Bay Devil
Rays belted the Boston Red Sox by the count of 18 to 5.

Cantu provided much of the offense. He delivered a single which was good for
two runs in the 3rd inning, slapped a one-base hit in the 4th inning, banged
out a single in the 5th inning and smacked a single which scored a run in the
7th inning. Tampa Bay lit up the scoreboard in the 3rd inning with 7 runs on
8 hits and the 7th inning which saw them score 7 runs on 8 hits. Overall
Tampa Bay out-hit Boston 23 to 10.

2006 NL Game: Mil. @ St. Louis

 August 5, 2006

Milwaukee's Ben Sheets pitched the first no-hitter this season in MLB as the Brewers defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 6-0. Only a walk in the 1st inning to Albert Pujols prevented a perfect game for Sheets. He struck out 9 batters in the effort and was probably just as happy to finally get his 2nd Win of the season.

Ben Sheets(2-5) was on top of his game in St. Louis as he tossed a beauty of a
no-hitter against the St. Louis Cardinals. The Milwaukee Brewers won by a
score of 6 to 0.

Sheets was obviously at the top of his game as he set the St. Louis batters
down like so many dominoes. He only walked one St. Louis batter. The
tension built to a fever pitch. After the 8th inning everybody in the
ballpark was anticipating what would happen in the 9th. Milwaukee managed 8
hits in their victory.

Anthony Reyes(1-4) took the loss. He pitched 6 innings giving up only 3 hits
and 1 walk. After the game, Sheets was heard to say, 'This is something I
have dreamt about since I was a little boy - to have it come true is just
amazing!'

2006 AL Game: Cle. @ Det.

 August 4, 2006

Being back at home didn't help my Detroit Tigers as they dropped a 5-3 contest against the Cleveland Indians. For Detroit it was their 6th loss in a row, their longest losing streak of the season. Once again it was the offense that failed to click. Only Marcus Thames' 3 run homer with 2 out in the bottom of the 9th prevented a Cleveland shutout. Cliff Lee started and got the Win for Cleveland, going 8 scoreless innings. The Tigers will try again tomorrow to stop the streak against the Indians with Kenny Rogers getting the start for Detroit.
